Aim and program profile

The Program of Interior design is based on the principle that well designed environments play a significant role in contributing to the successful and valuable occupation and use of interior space. The Program is structured around a series of subjects and design projects, which gain to develop physical and intellectual complexity of young experts, and examining, researching and developing creative solutions to changing issues of occupation and use. For the fact that demands and requirements for well-designed interior spaces, continues to change and develop, in response to public and commercial practice, new technologies and social and cultural practice, the Program of Interior design aims to reflect these changes in the encouragement to students, to explore and develop innovative, spatial and architectural interior design responses to these demands, and always focusing on the needs of Kosovan society. Yet another goal is to instill in them the ambition to engage in further studies and in continuous research work, so that they extend boundaries of their knowledge and professional skills in the phases of planning, blueprint designing and implementation (execution).

Expected learning outcomes

Graduates of the three year BA program will be able to work as: – The interior Projects – Creative directors – Visual Designer Moreover, developed skills and learned the AAB will provide students with the tools necessary to become skilled professionals to manage projects studios for interior.

Academic level and degree

Bachelor (BA) in the design of the interior.

Duration of studies and workload

Studies in the Program of Interior Design last for three years or six semesters. Semesters are organized in such a way that they last for 15 weeks each.

Year I

Basis of Interior Design 1- 9 ETCS

This course enables students to the basics of visual expression, it explains what is visual culture, the differences between ‘visual’ and ‘artistic’, how we understand the visual, what is artistic creation, aesthetics and art, connections between culture and nature, the differences between art and science, what is the image, the theory of composition and modeling, analyzing artistic shaping principles and structure of a work of art / practice facility. The course prepares student to logically express through the visual arts and interior design, textiles and clothing and visual communication.

Descriptive geometry- 6 ETCS

This Course shows the representation of three-dimensional objects in two dimensions, and the other way arround, using a specific set of procedures and graphic methods.

Creativity – 3 ETCS

Understanding of artistic creation in the wider context (anthropology, history, sociology, psychology); Sources of creativity through life development, creativity as the existence of humanity.

Free hand drawing 1- 3 ETCS

This course develops student’s creativity and the ability to compound. The line becomes an expression of architectural creation. Students develop various techniques of free hand drawing, understanding of the depth phenomenon and three dimensional expression.

English language 1- 3 ETCS

The course provides basic knowledge and tools to manage speaking and writing in English. It aims to prepare students with the best use of our speech daily and correctly write letters, articles, and course assignments. The main goal is to offer students the opportunity to make a presentation himself worthy and what are the purposes of studying architecture.

Theory of colors- 3 ETCS

This course aims to expand knowledge about the symbolic qualities of colors as well as the understanding on how colors shift according to the culture, environment and individuals, this includes the ability to make the study of color within the interior design using elements of the general theory of colors. The emphasis is on the recognition of artistic theory of colors, on the harmonization of colors theory, colors psychology and the history of colors in visual culture (fine arts and interior design).

Visual language- 3 ETCS

This course enables students to the basics of visual expression, it explains what is visual culture, the differences between ‘visual’ and ‘artistic’, how we understand the visual, what is artistic creation, aesthetics and art, connections between culture and nature, the differences between art and science, what is the image, the theory of composition and modeling, analyzing artistic shaping principles and structure of a work of art / practice facility. Multimedia- 3 ETCS

This specialized three year course is especially focused in new creative media and aims to equip the students with technical and creative expertise which is indispensable to enter the dynamic industry of new media. The course is computer based and gives the students an access to different special equipments including computer suites dedicated for the graphic design department, Black and white and color printers (A3 format), digital cameras, and digital video cameras. Multimedia is created to reach these objectives: – To offer an educational basement for a wide extend of creative technical and managing multimedia careers – To offer specialized studies directly relevant towards the path in which the students look for employment.

Basis of Interior Design 2- 9 ETCS

The main objective of this course is to introduce the 1st year students to the basics of interior design. The lectures and exercises foreseen by the curricula of this course will enable the students to gain the very first-hand theoretical and practical knowledge of the interior design. It is considered as the grammar of interior design which includes: primary elements (volumes), form, form and space, human proportion, etc.

Perspective drawing of interiors- 6 ETCS

Content of this course is designed for a student to gain deeper perception of space and have higher skills to present three-dimensional architectural objects. – Basic knowledge – object, observer, vertical line, plain, corner. – Methods of perspective – Method of coordinate system – Perspective of a corner – Perspective of interior and exterior

Space Design- 3 ETCS

Free hand drawing 2- 3 ETCS

This course develops students creativity and the ability to compound. The line becomes an expression of architectural creation. Students develop various techniques of free hand drawing, understanding of the depth phenomenon and three dimensional expression.

English Language 2- 3 ETCS

The course wants to offer the necessary knowledge and tools to articulate professionally the spoken and written English language in the field of Interior design. It aims to prepare students to analyse professional books, papers and magazines and newspapers. The main scope is to offer the student the possibility to make a proper statements about interior design and to give solutions according these issues.

Academic Writing- 3 ETCS

Academic writing is provided to AAB students in their first academic year of study to remedy the resulting deficit characteristic of many Kosovar students as they enter post-secondary education. Beyond remediation, academic writing offers students the opportunity to identify and produce genres of academic writing styles and understand the appropriate usage of each. The course intends to equip students with the skills necessary to become actively engaged with the information they will employ throughout different academic genres.

Photography- 3 ETCS

The main characteristic of photography is its unique ability to “capture” the totality of forms and movements, spaces and events. The module looks at three main themes: the first two are oriented towards theoretical aspects (elements of history and photography techniques, analysis of photography as a language, the elements of the composition of the photograph as a project), while the third is devoted to the realization of projects photography.

Year II

Interior design of residential buildings 1- 9 ETCS

Students are presented with functional interior contours for housing, how to position the interior in relation to the premises position and geographical features, having in mind the lighting, ventilation and natural resources; the approach towards space as a whole. Presentation of ergonometry, antropometry, moduling, and their impact on industrial design of unique furniture for residential interiors. Students learn about the shape, color, quality, vision …; the unique qualities of each individual maker. Preparation of students to create creative projects as follows: Designing a living room and bedroom / one-bedroom accommodation with all the attributes of the perfect project.

Design and technology of wood objects- 6 ETCS

Content the course of design and technology of wooden objects is designed for students to possess much better knowledge about wood as a material, technology as well as the best use of it.

Lighting- 3 ETCS

Designing the lighting scheme of an interior is a demanding job, since it interferes with the sphere of human natural environment. Lighting influences light conditions in the environment, which in turn influence sight as the cardinal human sense, as well as the general mood in the interior. The lighting designer must thoroughly understand light sources, illuminants and other materials used, so that he can create a suitable lighting environment, according to the purpose of the space.

Practice S1 – studio- 6 ETCS

Student manages to organize small design teams and helps organise and lead the practice diary. It is obligatory to visit a studio of / interior design/ architecture in order to gain experience and to observe closely the work of an Interior designer.

Furniture design 3 ETCS

Content of the course of funiture design is designed for students to possess a better knowledge about the primary function and importance of furniture design, furniture ergonomics, materials used for furniture technology and manufacturing.

Scenography- 3 ETCS

The content in the cours of theater stage is designed for the student to possess basic knowledge about the art direction in general, but focusing on the theater scenography. The student is introduced to the elements of the scene, with stage setting, blinds and scenario conceptualization based on the script and Synopsis. The student is introduced also to the fundamental principles of scenography used in theater, working procedures, and in the final processing of the scene depending on the materials used for theatrical performances.

History of Art- 3 ETCS

This course aims the adoption and recognition of the work in the world of art, as well as the regional and albanian, in order to understand the time of creation, the artist, the style and orientation of artistic work.

AutoCAD 2D- 3 ETCS

The course AutoCAD 2D aims to create student’s computer skills – the respective software for the profession they choose.

Textile fabrics within interior design- 3 ETCS

The emphasis is on the connection of textiles, colors and patterns with the designed space. An understanding of the transmission of a trend present in a certain commercial sphere to the sphere of textile linings, curtains and wallpaper materials is expected. The students will be introduced to the differences and properties of textile designs, used for attaining the proper constructional solutions, which make the connection between an idea and the final product possible, and allow for a leisure mass production of the product. Understanding and familiarity with different demands when it comes to designing textile products for households and public interiors. Introduction with global trends, with an emphasis on the chronological intervals during which they tend to shift. The ability to recognize a new trend of color combinations, patterns and textile fabrics, and the ability of transmission basic notions of design to the field of textile design, and gaining new designing experience – the creation of a textile collection.

Practice S2 – studio- 6 ETCS

15 weeks of practice in the studio (6 hours a week). The student is under the supervision of the workshop director and the professor. During this period the student assists the designer who has experience and the director of the workshop in the work that is being done during that time. The student is present at the workshop as a part-time work and keeps the regular diary of the work.

Computer media in interior design- 3 ETCS

Attaining the basic knowledge about the working of the modern media language. Qualifying for use of the language of modern media for designing visual communication in the new media. Introduction to the relationship between computer media and the older media, such as photography, film, video; the integration of various media in modern communication. Understanding the new media in the larger context of informational technologies and innovations in the field. Comprehending the connection between modern media and cultural exchange, and the ability to shape socially focused communication with the aid of modern day media. Acquainting the student with the myriad of possibilities that the computer offers in design, on the conceptual as well as the practical level of creation in digital visual media. Realization of individual projects.

Sociology of housing- 3 ETCS

The purpose of this course is raising the student’s social awareness aiming a better quotation of the philosophy of housing design process.

Graphics 3 ETCS

The primary objective of this course is to introduce the students with the elementary principles of the graphical techniques that will be achieved during the semester, at the same time the student will cultivate the basic elementary skills and the more sophisticated ones.
– The creative and the compositional formation in which it is decided for every trace to permanently be a task of increasing the creative level with newer tendencies towards modern visions.
– The student during the semester in addition of the exercises has to research literature by the well- known graphic artists from the renaissance until today. E.g. Dyreri, Munki, Picasso, Rosenberg,
etc.

Painting -3 ETCS

The students attain theoretical as well as practical knowledge in the field painting, painting techniques and technologies, as well as artistic expression by means of painting. The evolution of the painting in the history of art, with an emphasis on the understanding of modern painting, or rather the painting itself. By means of the classical approach to the painting, the student develops a feel for composition, proportions and space, the carrying-over of a mental basis to paper. A rational approach and a critical examination of a painting in all the segments of its creation.

Year III

Interior design of public edifices-1 9 ETCS

The students are introduced to various methods of planning and functional organization of public edifices such as shops, restaurants, typical small business locales, cosmetic parlors. The students plan and design a project from idea to its realization. The student can adapt the function of the locale with its construction, fitting, shape, color and lighting. The student is taught an innovative approach to designing an ambient and presenting his own ideas. Theoretical and practical knowledge is furthered by insights into the processes of production and design of furniture, technological progress and materials and construction. We introduce the student to the theoretical basics and practical examples that allow him/ her an independent planning, from idea to realization. The extent of the knowledge given in this course includes understanding and proper organization of specific programming requirements of separate thematic complexes of small commercial edifices. In the making of the main, final project, the student joins the newly gained skills with the knowledge from the first two years of study.

Contemporary Interior and criticism- 6 ETCS

The main objective of this course is introducing students to the basics of modern interior, beginning of the 20th century, by applying new materials, materials that were unknown until then and which fundamentally changed the flows of architecture until that time, as well as all periods until the end of the 20th century and nowadays.

Communicational strategies- 3 ETCS

Introduction to basics of communicational strategies with an emphasis on the planning and administration of the image of a company (corporative identity). Clear definitions of conceptions such as: mission, vision, marketing goals, communicational goals, communicational strategies, media strategies… Preparing the students for actual marketing and communicational challenges. At the conclusion of the module the students should be capable of arrange a communicational strategy, allowing for various communicational tools and media. They should also be proficient with the design of an image of the company, and be able to carry it out in a visual language. Communicational strategy – what, why, how, for whom, when, with what anticipated results?

The students are introduced to various methods of planning and functional organization of public edifices such as larger business locales, hotels, banks, etc. The students plan and design a project from idea to its realization. The student can adapt the function of the locale with its construction, fitting, shape, color and lighting. The student is taught an innovative approach to designing an ambient and presenting his own ideas. Theoretical and practical knowledge is furthered by insights into the processes of production and design of furniture, technological progress and materials and construction. We introduce the student to the theoretical basics and practical examples that allow him/ her, an independent planning, from idea to realization. The extent of the knowledge given in this course includes understanding and proper organization of specific programming requirements of separate thematic complexes of larger capacity commercial edifices. In the making of the main, final project, the student.

Ecological and sustainable design- 3 ETCS

– The main objective of this course is to present and strengthen the awareness to create the environment that is as sustainable as possible, using energy saving materials and technologies. This awareness will be raised by showing the main and most important issues of Ecological/ Sustainable design as well as various projects as concrete examples.

Bachelor Thesis/ Project- 12 ETCS

Students will be able to choose in between various Thesis/ Projects offered within the Program. The same will be dealt with and worked on during the last semester of their Bachelor studies in consultaions with their respective Mentor or Supervisor.

3D MAX- 3 ETCS

The main objective of the Course 3D Max is: the students will present what they have drawn through AutoCAD to reflect it in a program where they could present either the shapes or respective object’s materialization. 3Dmax course aims to train at students the proper computer/ software skills for the profession they have chosen.

Development and modeling of interiors- 3 ETCS

It is as much a study on the style development of interiors as it is an insight into parallel developments in the fields of architecture, sculpture and painting. It is essential to understand the importance of arts and crafts and interior designing as an integral part of historical formations of style. In the end, it’s a study of the concept of the succession of development of works of art, and placing furniture and interior design in this concept.

– History of interior design as a part of the history of Art

Feng Shui – East Asian living culture- 3 ETCS

The students are introduced to basic concepts and the importance of Feng shui in residential and public space interior designing. Feng shui, the chinese wisdom of arranging spaces serves as a supplement to the modern designing principles. It introduces the students to a more wholesome comprehension of space and its design. Feng shui emphasizes adapting space to the specific needs of its users. At the same time, it teaches us how to adapt our space so that it follows the natural currents and processes that aren’t only present in the Chinese environment, but are also part of the modern, western environment of the 21st century. By acknowledging the principles and methods of Feng shui, the student develops a multi-layered sensitivity for space, that is too often disregarded in the classical designing and scholarly approach.

Graphic design- 3 ETCS

The course Book preparation is the fundamental course in the Graphic Design department- Figurative Arts Branch, which in a complex way offers to students the fundamental skills of inventive creativity and history during centuries.
Class hours: Theory (20%), Practice (80%). The assignments are realized by using the sophisticated computer programs.

Trademarks -3 ETCS

The students will be acquiring the basic knowledge about marketing and sales techniques. The theoretical basics include expertise in the elementary principles of marketing and elements of sales strategies, while practical work enables Students immediate application of the gained knowledge in the actual field of work. The lectures give an emphasis on teamwork and preparing the students for actual practical work, rather than just theory. An insight into various different sales techniques is a good base for planning sales strategies. After having finished the module, the students will be able to form marketing plans to support their own designer creations.

Management of innovations and technologies- 3 ETCS

Acquainting and making the student proficient with innovational processes from all of the possible visual angles, so that the theory and practice in the field of innovations shall be presented in a clear and intelligible way. The students will come to know the basics of the subject, and will be introduced to modern organization of inventive innovational processes, that is, creativity. The subject is multidisciplinary, and connects numerous fields (Creativity, marketing, modern technology, design of products and services, industrial property, copyright, competition, etc). We will be introducing the fields, methods and ways of stirring up the mind for a suitable designing of the policy of development, design, and connected with these, the sales of products and services. Inventively innovational processes offer a new approach to understanding new technology, new grasps and the understanding of the market.
