Aim and program profile

The master health management program is a second level program according to the European Qualifications Framework – Higher Education Area (European Qualifications Framework, European Higher Education Area EQF – EHEA), and level 7 according to the EQF and the Qualification Framework of Kosovo. Master level studies are oriented to in-depth studies of certain issues as study objects of these programs. Therefore, in accordance with the requirements of the Manual of the Accreditation Agency in Kosovo, during the drafting of this program, AAB has taken care that the level of competencies and skills that students acquire are in accordance with the descriptors of the National Qualifications Framework. The program is implemented based on “Regulation for the organization of master studies” of AAB College.

Expected learning outcomes

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:
– Demonstrate deep knowledge and understanding of key aspects of the functioning of the health sector;
– Implement and develop original ideas based on clear information for improving the workplace, organizational performance and staff efficiency; engage in the systematic approach of scientific research and processing of information and phenomena in health care organizations;
– Implement new approaches to problem solving in new situations using new knowledge and considering the accumulated experiences in the healthcare sector;
– Make competent judgments in situations with limited information, always reflecting social and ethical considerations;
– Clearly express and communicate their conclusions and judgments to a specialized and / or non-specialized audience;
– Continue to advance knowledge based on a systematic, coherent and aware approach to personal development;
– Take responsibility for individual actions and professional development and the work of a group of staff in the health sector.

Academic level and degree title

Upon completion of studies students earn the title: Master of Science (MSc) in Health Management.


I Year

Research Methodology - 7 ECTS

The course aims to teach students about the basics of scientific research and their application in the project proposal of the scientific master thesis in health management. Acquisition of theoretical knowledge, practical skills on the basis of scientific research that will strengthen the managerial competencies associated with evidence-based decision making. The course aims to provide students with the latest literature related to scientific research, to develop critical and analytical skills of reading scientific literature, to develop skills for independent work in terms of sample selection, type of research, way of collecting data and creating databases as well as writing scientific articles according to standards, to enable students to independently write a scientific project proposal.

Basics of Statistics - 7 ECTS

Raising theoretical and practical knowledge on the basis of statistics to contribute to evidence-based decision-making competencies. The course aims to train students in biostatistics regarding the collection, organization, analysis and interpretation of numerical data in biological and health sciences, basic concepts of using statistics, to elaborate in detail the statistical concepts and statistical methods of descriptive and concluding analyzes applied in biological and health sciences, to enable students to propose the methodology of statistical analysis in the project scientific proposals.

Organization and functioning of the health system - 6 ECTS

The course aims to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills of students, which will enable the construction of managerial competencies related to the organization and functioning of the health system, and contribute to its improvement. The course aims to train students in terms of recognizing the general characteristics of the model of organization and functioning of the health system (final, intermediate goals and levers of control of the health system), to develop analytical skills in measuring, monitoring and communicating system performance health, respectively health institutions, to enable students to independently define the framework of performance measurement in order to improve performance.

Management of health institutions - 10 ECTS

Introduction to the concept of management in general and management of health institutions in particular. Acquisition of theoretical knowledge and analytical skills that will strengthen managerial competencies related to management as an economic notion and its application specifically in management health institutions. The course aims to create a concept of continuous managerial mentality for each health managerial job as well as clinical medical responsibilities, to develop analytical skills for the way of managing health institutions and services, efficiency and effectiveness of work, the way of managing resources in general and in special management of professional health human resources, with special focus on the level of motivation, stress management at work, and continuing professional education based on the latest developments.

Leadership - 8 ECTS

Through this course students will gain essential knowledge about leadership and various leadership skills to influence people to achieve institutional goals through their maximum commitment. Critical thinking will be developed and students will be trained to apply the knowledge gained in practice, during leadership and decision-making processes. The course aims to help students understand the key competencies of effective leadership, to understand the importance of motivation, influence and work teamwork for effective leadership, recognize leadership styles and develop leadership skills in dynamic and uncertain environments, be able to put into practice students’ knowledge of leadership and other elements such as personality, behavior and their perceptions when building leader-employee relationships.

Information technology and communication in health care - 8 ECTS

Course Information technology and communication in health aims to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills of students, which will enable the construction of managerial competencies in the field of information technology and communication in health. Upon completion, students are expected to be able to understand what Information Systems are and what their importance is in a state’s health system.

Quality in health care - 8 ECTS

Achieving theoretical knowledge and analytical skills that will strengthen managerial competencies in performing quality measurements, evaluating measurements against expectations, compiling improvement plans based on existing improvement models and using tools available and improvement team leadership.

Global Health - 8 ECTS

Introduction to the concepts and developments of global health. Acquisition of theoretical knowledge and analytical skills that will strengthen the managerial competencies related to developments in global health, and contribute to their improvement. The course aims to increase knowledge about the concept of global health, dynamics and development prospects. Enable students to independently analyse developments at the global health level and understand their managerial role and contribute to its improvement.

Ethics and deontology - 6 ECTS

The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge about moral issues in medical practice, as well as to create a factual opinion among students that the application of moral rules is essential for development. of genuine medical practice. Familiarity with ethical principles and medical deontology. To create continuous knowledge among students of medical profiles that the principles of morality, although some of them are not mandatory by law, should be respected during their work as a health professional.

Legal aspects of the health system - 6 ECTS

The course aims to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills of students, which enable progress and change in health institutions, respectively the health system, which will contribute to improving health status, protection from financial risk and the satisfaction of the citizens in order for the students to be better able to create a more efficient health management.

Health Economics - 6 ECTS

Introduction to the basics of health economics and developments in health economics. Acquisition of theoretical knowledge and analytical skills in health economics that will strengthen the managerial competencies related to health and healthcare. The course aims to develop analytical and communication skills related to relevant concepts in the field of health economics.

Financial Management - 6 ECTS

The overall goal is to build the financial management skills (knowledge and skills) of healthcare managers or executives. Introduce students to the general concepts of the process of planning, execution, management, control and reporting of finances in health care institutions, develop theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of students in the field of financial management in the context of operations, revenues, investments capital, financial analysis and reporting to health care organizations.

The course aims to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to the basic and general concepts of project management, planning, writing, management, control and evaluation of projects, as well as methodologies, the most efficient techniques and instruments for project generation and management.

Global Health Challenges and a Health Approach - 6 ECTS

Learning the key global health challenges and developments. Achieving theoretical knowledge and analytical skills that will strengthen managerial competencies at the institutional level in relation to developments in a health approach to global health. Understanding the key concepts and factors influencing global health and a health approach. Development of interdisciplinary, intercultural competencies.
