Aim and program profile

“Social and Organizational Psychology” Master Program (MA) will help students develop advanced skills and knowledge in the respective field. Furthermore, through various discussions students will develop an analytical and critical approach to the latest developments in the field of Social and Organizational Psychology. Besides the integration of theoretical and practical knowledge, the master program will provide opportunities for students to gain research skills and analysis of data using various statistical procedures. In this regard, students are expected to be prepared to access the labor market in accordance with the acquired skill.
Based on our knowledge and research, “Social and Organizational Psychology” Master Program is the only one offered in Kosova. Thus, upon successful completion of these studies, students will have the opportunity to contribute to social development by working in different academic and non-academic environments. Students can be employed in various institutions, public or private, as scientific-research institutions with specific focus on researching group/team issues in the organizational or social context, academic institutions by engaging in teaching and research, profitable or business organizations in units of human resources or recruiting and testing personnel, special centers of career guidance, non-governmental organizations focusing on different social issues and analyzes, and/or professional trainer, organizational consultant, professional marketing officer, official in public relations office, personnel manager, mediator, adviser of public health, etc. .

Expected learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of master studies in organisational and social psychology, students are expected to meet the main goals of the program through expected outcomes in each of them:
1. Further adopt solid base of knowledge in Psychological Science
adopt theories, concepts, principles, perspectives, and major historical trends of modern psychology disipline, demonstrate and argue the changing nature of psychological knowledge, 2. Develop critical thinking
analyze advanced knowledge of psychology, and results from research, demonstrate skills and ability to solve complex and unpredictable problems in the field of study; analyze current theoretical debates and findings in psychology, 3. Understand advanced scientific method
compile and develop research papers, using different methodologies, understand the research methods used in recent studies in psychology, organisational and social psychology, use and interpret advanced statistical procedures through the use of SPSS to analyze data, ensure, in accordance with professional standards, ethical treatment of research participants. 4. Develop professional communication skills
communicate clearly in all professional standard ways (oral presentations, research posters, research reports), summarize and synthesize the psychological literature, communicate research results clearly, using both words and numbers, write high quality scientific articles in accordance with international standards of scientific papers, present ethical behavior in all aspects of psychology science and practice (e.g., avoid plagiarism and conflicts of interest). 5. Apply psychological knowledge effectively
be able to apply psychological principles in several different areas: individual, group and organization analysis, apply research methods in undertaking independent research projects, be able to articulate how psychological principles can be used to address social issues and inform public policies in a multicultural, global context.

120 ECTS total/ 60 ECTS per year / 30 ECTS per term

Year I

1. Advanced Organizational Psychology – 8 ECTS

Introduction to theories and research with a special focus on organizational psychology. The implications and applications in different organizational contexts. Advanced Organizational Psychology course is a scientific examination of how human thinking, attitudes and behavior are influenced by the context of the leader, collaborators, organizational policies, structure, culture etc. The main topics include: motivation, leadership, group and team performance, attitudes to work, climate and organizational culture and organizational development.

2. Methods of Psychological Research I – 8 ECTS

This course is designed to familiarize students with practical issues of conducting research in organizations. It will focus on the issues that researchers face in its application, such as: (research design and ethics) and coverage of a large number of important research techniques, as well as the content of necessary analysis. This course is also designed to familiarize students with what is required from a master dissertation research.

3. Advanced Social Psychology – 8 ECTS

This course will provide an overview of social psychology, both classical and current. Topics discussed will include: processes of attitude changes; social impacts such as: conformity, compliance and obedience; the self and self-evaluation; the person’s perception and attribution; stereotypes and prejudices; attraction and selection of spouses; group impact on performance.

4. Communication in organization – 6 ECTS

This course is designed to explain the intercultural communication field and what it has to offer the professional level in the context of understanding the intercultural theory and practice and skills to designing collaboration, empathetic and effective environments.

5. Diversity in Organizations – 6 ECTS

In this course, students will gain a thorough understanding of diversity as it applies to strategic planning in organizations, cultural change, and team dynamics. Students are faced with identifying the reality in developing and implementing of diversity initiatives for the organization and the workforce, and considering new issues of managing the diversity in organizations. Attention is given to how language, gender, race, tradition, education, economic and organizational structure cooperate to create a set of rules for acceptable behavior in organizations. .

6. Organizational Management – 8 ECTS

Organisational management includes the coordination and facilitation of organizational processes to meet the main goals of the organization. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to some of the main topics in the field of organizational management, and to train them in implementing this knowledge into organizational practices. .

7. Research Methods with Statistics – 8 ECTS

This course will provide practical knowledge of the use of analyzing data techniques. For the quantitative component, lectures will cover a range of advanced multivariate and univariate statistical analysis. This course has its practical component including workshops for SPSS, which will help increase the understanding of statistical results.

8. Workers Welfare – 8 ECTS

This course mainly covers knowledge about the welfare at work. However, the themes presented in this course also cover material relevant to the fields of learning, training and development, leadership, commitment and motivation. The module specifically focuses on individual employee welfare, mental health, and personal responses to stress. Various renowned models of human functioning and accompanying interventions that are applied to workplace environments will be presented. .

9. Leadership and Group Performance – 6 ECTS

This course focuses on the interaction between individuals, groups and organizations with special attention on the roles of leaders and managers. Performance of groups and organizations depends on adapting between needs, motivations, values and people’s skills as well as structural and operational features of groups and organizations. Leaders use their power and choose tactics of influence to do have followers or subordinates do things

10. Intermediation Skills – 6 ECTS

Mediation Course is an advanced course for Master students. The course focuses on mediation as a conflict management skill. This course further elaborates and advances knowledge on social psychology, being very practical in approach. Students acquire conflict management and mediation skills. These skills are applicable in almost every conflict situation, be it in a working or a private context.

Year II

1. Psychological evaluation in organizational settings- 8 ECTS

The purpose of this course is to introduce students on assessment in the context of selecting and assessment in organizations. This course enables students to understand how selection decisions are made for individuals in the workplace.

2. Master thesis project – 8 ECTS

This course focuses on key knowledge related to decisions on working with the master thesis, ranging from the research topic, research design, methodology, result presentation and respect of ethical aspects in research. .

3. Negotiating and Social Decision-making – 8 ECTS

Individual decision-making and group decision-making are fundamental blocks of teamwork and organizational behavior. Team performance depends on how groups distribute, store and process information, how individuals negotiate with others, how group members interact and cooperate, as groups come up with creative ideas or solutions to problems, and how people in groups pursue their goals or contribute to collective success. .

4. Managing Organizational Conflicts – 6 ECTS

This course examines how conflicts unfold in organizational environments, and explains the causes, influence of factors and strategies for conflict management. Since conflicts are inevitable in working relations, the establishment of effective processes for the prevention and resolution of disputes is crucial to minimizing the consequences of conflicts in the workplace. .

5. Group and Individual Counseling in Organizations – 6 ECTS

Students will study and practice basic strategies for helping within the context of interviewing, individual and group counseling. They will be introduced to the concepts and theories of counseling, techniques, ethical and professional issues, the process of individual and group counseling and competencies needed in this process Competency will be evaluated through the use of videotapes, discussion, and participation in class activities. Students will spend hours in an internship dedicated to the human services, during which direct practice will take place. .

6. Internship – 10 ECTS

The practice offers students an opportunity to learn how the level of knowledge, attitudes and skills already acquired during studies is applicable in practical situations of students’ profile. .

7. Master Thesis – 20 ECTS

The student chooses a topic of interest and a supervisor from the range of ongoing research projects within the field of specialization. .
