AAB University awarded Majlinda Kelmendi the International Prize for Achievement in Sports

The Albanian judoka Majlinda Kelmendi was born on 9 May 1991 in Pejë.

Prishtina, October 3, 2014-Ina solemn ceremony, AAB University awarded the European and World championin judo, Majlinda Kelmendi with the International Prize for High Achievementin Sport. This prize is awarded to athletes prominent for high achievementsin sportsand to those who have woninternational competitions.

On this occasion, the Rector of AAB University, LulzimTafa, upon wishing a warm welcometo the participantsinthis solemn ceremonyof award, saidthat apart from this prize for achievement in sports that is awarded today to World Champion in Judo Majlinda Kelmendi, AAB University hasalsoestablishedfourinternational awardsin various fieldssuch asAward forScientificAchievements, Award forHumanRights, ArtsandLiteratureAwardand the Award forDemocracyand Integration.

"This time, it was not hard for the evaluation committee to make the decision, becausewe had noneedto seekthe winnerofthis year's AABprizeforHighAchievementinsportsin the world, neitherinEurope, norin the regionbecausewe found the winner herein Kosovo. Furthermore, the miracle happened for usas a university as wefound her to be among us, the diligentstudentof the Faculty ofSports, worldjudochampionMajlindaKelmendi “said Rector Tafa. 

Hesaidthatinthese14years of University AAB being operational, many promising studentsofdifferentprofessionalfields have graduated, which are successfully operating in labor market withcompetenceand professionalism. "For many consecutive years the girls fromAABadornuswiththe championcupof Kosovoinvolleyball. Wealso havechampions invariousfields and categories, butthe great successofAABandKosovoisMajlindathatexcelsas a studentand asathlete, "said RectorTafa.

The chairman of the Kosovo OlympicCommittee, BesimHasani, whocongratulatedMajlinda Kelmendiforthe award, addedthatKosovar athleteswill take partinthe Olympic Gamesto be heldin Rio deJaneiro. BrunoKukaj, coachofworldchampionMajlindaKelmendi, saidthat in addition toinstitutional supportandwinning theworldtitleinjudo, which was followed by avery specialeventafter meetingwith leaders of theUniversity.

Meanwhile, the International Prize laureate for High Achievement in Sports, Majlinda Kelmendi, thanked AAB for this award, saying that she feels privileged since earlier such a prize was awarded to well-known Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare, by this university.
"It is an honor for me to be part of AAB, the best university in the region. Thank you very much for the opportunity you have given me for passing my sports knowledge to an educational institution, especially at AAB which literally is the best university in the region ", said the world champion in judo, Majlinda Kelmendi.

In the end, the Rector of AAB University, LulzimTafahanded her the international award for High Achievement in Sports, while world champion handed him the gold medal of the World Cup to Rector Tafa.

Upon receipt of the gift from the champion, Rector Tafa said that it is an indescribable emotion because rarely there are universities and rectors in the world to have the luck and opportunity of receiving the gold medal won in a world championship by their students.
