Xhevahire Izmaku

Xhevahire Izmaku is a university Professor, Politician and Author with extensive experience in media, public administration and academic lecturing. With a career spanning over two decades, she has made a significant contribution to institutional development, university education and the advancement of women’s issues and civil rights in Kosovo. She is currently a lecturer at AAB College in Prishtina, where she has been lecturing in the field of communication and journalism since 2012.

In the political field, Ms. Izmaku served as a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo for four terms (2010–2019 and again from 2024), where she has held important positions as Chair of the Media Committee and member of other committees such as the one on legislation and the one on the Intelligence Service. Previously, from 2008 to 2010, she was the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Vushtrri, where she held functions with high managerial responsibility.

Her professional experience begins with the role of spokesperson for the Municipality of Vushtrri (1999–2002) and as a correspondent journalist for RTV21 (1998–2000), while later she served as a senior information officer at the Ministry of Public Services and as a communications manager at the Kosovo Institute for Public Administration.

In terms of academia, Ms. Izmaku completed her doctorate in Journalism and Communication Sciences at the University of Tirana (2015–2020). She graduated from the Faculty of Philology at the University of Prishtina, majoring in Albanian Language and Literature.

Her contribution to the scientific field includes papers indexed in the international Scopus database, which deal with topics of media communication, society, public policies and community rights. Among the most popular publications are:

Ms. Izmaku has participated in most European countries in political and administrative study visits, with a focus on European integration, public policy development, local governance and institutional management. Some of the international diplomas and certificates she has obtained through these engagements include:

  • Diploma from the School for European Integration, tenth generation (2009–2010)
  • Expert in policy development in the civil service, certification from the Lithuanian Institute for Public Administration (LIPA) – Vilnius, supported by the European Commission (May 2005)
  • Certified trainer at the Kosovo Institute for Public Administration – IKAP (2005)
  • One-year international certificate in general management, legislation, budget and finance, human resources and EU affairs, within the framework of the program organized by the consortium HAUS (Finland), LIVADIS (Lithuania) and HUMAN DYNAMIC (Austria) in cooperation with RESPA (2005)

She has participated and presented at international conferences in North Macedonia, Albania and Turkey, with a special emphasis on topics such as the impact of funding on public broadcasters and the role of media for non-majority communities. Ms. Izmaku is the author of four poetry books and a member of the Kosovo Writers’ Association.

She has proficiency in English and a working knowledge of Serbian.

Xhevahire Izmaku remains one of the most engaged figures in the connection between education, politics and civil society in Kosovo, contributing to the building of democratic institutions and strengthening the role of women in decision-making!
