Sehad Kadiri

Dr. Sehad Kadiri was born on May 11, 1982, in Prizren, and was raised and educated in the city of Rahovec, where he completed his primary and secondary education. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong interest in the natural sciences, particularly in physics and technology.

He completed his undergraduate and master’s studies at the University of Prishtina, Faculty of Mathematical and Natural Sciences (FMNS), Department of Physics. In pursuit of advancing his academic and scientific knowledge, he later earned his Ph.D. at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, within the Faculty of Mathematical Engineering and Physics Engineering (FME & PE), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Kostandin Dollani.

His doctoral dissertation, titled “A Study on Quality Control and Patient Doses in Computed Tomography Systems in Kosovo,” has been recognized as a significant scientific and practical contribution in the field of radiation dosimetry and medical radiation protection.

Professional and Academic Career

Dr Sehad. Kadiri began his professional career as a dedicated teacher at the primary school “7 Shtatori” and the secondary school “Xhelal Hajda – Toni” in Rahovec. In both institutions, he was highly committed to improving the quality of education and fostering students’ interest in science and critical thinking.

In October 2007, Dr. Kadiri was appointed Radiation Dosimetry Specialist at the Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) in Obiliq, one of Kosovo’s leading institutions for the monitoring and protection against ionizing radiation. From the beginning, he played a vital role in strengthening the technical and institutional capacities of national radiological protection.

Through this position, he became a key figure in the evaluation and certification of radiation safety conditions in medical facilities, including hospitals, private clinics, and specialized institutions. His technical work was complemented by in-depth research activities, including complex assessments of occupational risks, medical exposure dosimetry, and policy recommendations aimed at improving radiological protection practices across Kosovo.

Dr. Kadiri contributed significantly to the modernization of the IOM’s dosimetric infrastructure, by supporting the selection and use of advanced equipment and overseeing the calibration of measurement systems in line with international methodologies.

Moreover, his collaborations with renowned international institutions have elevated both the IOM’s status as a national reference center and his own recognition as a trusted and respected expert in radiation protection.

These collaborations include:

• Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK-CEN) in Mol, Belgium
• Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health (IMI) in Zagreb, Croatia
• Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics (IFBZ) in Tirana, Albania

His work within these partnerships has been marked by commitment, professionalism, and a tireless drive to promote safe practices in the use of ionizing radiation.

Since 2013, Dr. Kadiri has served as a Medical Physics Expert at the Oncology Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK), the country’s highest-level healthcare institution. In this critical role, he has made an irreplaceable contribution to the implementation of safe and effective radiation treatment procedures, in full accordance with international standards and evidence-based medical protocols.

Thanks to his extensive experience and expertise in medical dosimetry, Dr. Kadiri has been instrumental in consolidating and enhancing clinical practices in radiotherapy, introducing a new level of professionalism and precision in oncological care in Kosovo.

He has also played a vital role in training the next generation of medical physicists, radiotherapy technologists, and medical science students, sharing his knowledge and experience through direct mentorship, lectures, and hands-on clinical guidance.

His contributions at the Oncology Clinic go beyond the technical dimension, as he has also served in an advisory capacity in the development of internal guidelines and safety standards for the controlled use of radiation in medicine. Additionally, he has been actively involved in modernization projects aimed at upgrading UCCK’s radiotherapy capabilities, including the selection and implementation of advanced technologies for treatment planning and image verification.

His continued presence and dedication at the Oncology Clinic have been essential for delivering safe and high-quality care to cancer patients, while also elevating the overall standards and trust in Kosovo’s public healthcare system.

Engagement in Higher Education and Scientific Research

Dr. Sehad Kadiri has extensive and multifaceted experience in higher education, having contributed for over a decade to the education and professional formation of new generations in medical and technical sciences. His involvement in this field has consistently been grounded in strong professional foundations and a deep commitment to academic excellence.

He began his academic career in the 2010/11 academic year when he was appointed as a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Prishtina, where he spent five years leading practical sessions in the course Medical Physics with Biophysics. During this time, he made notable contributions to improving teaching methodologies and linking theoretical instruction with laboratory practice.

From 2015 to 2018, he extended his academic activity to the University of Gjakova “Fehmi Agani”, where he lectured in Biophysics at the Faculty of Medicine. There, he played a vital role in developing a modern and standardized curriculum, promoting critical and interdisciplinary thinking among students in the health sciences.

One of Dr. Kadiri’s most prominent and enduring contributions in higher education began in October 2017 at AAB College in Prishtina, where he currently holds the academic title of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

Within AAB College, Dr. Kadiri has developed a high-level academic and scientific activity, delivering lectures in key courses such as:

• Basics of Physics for Radiologic Technicians
• Radiation Hazards and Protection
• Quality Assurance in Medical Imaging
• Radiation Therapy and Protection, among others

He has been actively engaged in designing and updating curricula for these subjects, ensuring that course content aligns with the latest European standards and contemporary labor market demands. His teaching approach skillfully blends theoretical principles with practical applications, utilizing laboratory demonstrations (clinical exercises) and advanced radiation simulation technologies.

Beyond teaching, Dr. Kadiri has made an exceptional contribution to scientific research within the institution. He has successfully supervised numerous undergraduate and master’s thesis projects, as well as independent research studies and applied projects. Many of these works have been accepted and presented at national and international conferences and published in indexed scientific journals.

He has also been an initiator and active participant in organizing scientific conferences, workshops, and professional training sessions at AAB College. His efforts have fostered a strong academic and research culture within the institution. Additionally, he has played a vital role in building international academic collaborations, particularly in the fields of medical physics and radiation protection, thereby opening doors for students and staff to access training and research opportunities abroad.

Dr. Kadiri’s tireless work, professional integrity, and dedication to higher education have made him a key and highly respected figure at AAB College, where he continues to make a significant impact on the advancement of university-level education in Kosovo.

Dr. Sehad Kadiri possesses advanced competencies in the use of modern technologies and specialized software essential for professional practice in medical physics and for conducting scientific research in this field.

He has extensive experience and deep knowledge of radiation therapy planning software, including:

• MONACO Treatment Planning System (Elekta)

Used for 3D, VMAT, and IMRT radiation dose planning, with advanced dose optimization, anatomical structure contouring, and simulation of dose distribution within the patient’s body;

• Oncentra Internal Beam (Elekta/Nucletron)

Applied in the advanced planning of internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy), enabling precise source placement and dose calculation.;

• MOSAIQ (Elekta)

A comprehensive system for clinical data integration, patient treatment planning, and centralized monitoring, allowing for synchronized management of treatment records, medical files, and dosimetric protocols in radiotherapy.;

Additionally, Dr. Kadiri is trained and experienced in quality control and calibration software for radiological equipment, including:

• PTW Nomex, used for analyzing X-ray beam parameters and gamma comparison with measured data, ensuring accurate performance verification;
• IBA Dosimetry Software, Employed in dosimetric field measurements and linear accelerator performance testing, critical for radiotherapy quality assurance;
