AAB College has been selected to implement the project LEG-EU – Legal Education on Gender Equality in the EU: Integrating EU Frameworks into Law Curriculum, funded by the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Actions programme. The project will be developed within the Faculty of Law over a three-year period.
Kosovo, in its efforts to integrate into the European Union, faces serious challenges in the effective implementation of laws on gender equality and protection from gender-based violence. Although the legal framework includes the Law on Gender Equality, the Istanbul Convention and CEDAW, implementation remains weak.
Project objectives
This project aims to integrate European Union standards and legal frameworks on gender equality into the AAB law curriculum, empowering students with practical and theoretical knowledge on how EU policies can be implemented in the Kosovo legal system.
The LEG-EU project comes as a response to this gap in legal education, aiming to:
Develop a specialized teaching module on EU legislation on gender equality, integrated into the curriculum of the Faculty of Law;
Create interactive learning resources through case studies, legal simulations and policy exercises;
Organize lectures and round tables with EU experts, policymakers and gender equality activists
Publish a policy guide with concrete recommendations for improving the implementation of European standards in the Kosovo legal system.
Student involvement and practical implementation
During the three years of implementation, the project will involve around 90 law students and will produce:
a full teaching module with 135 hours of lectures;
three public lectures and three annual round tables with professionals in the field;
three annual conferences with students and institutional stakeholders;
a guide to the implementation of EU legislation on gender equality in Kosovo;
a website and a dedicated campaign for the dissemination of results through AAB and ATV channels.
Impact of the project
The project will have a direct impact on strengthening legal education and raising institutional and public awareness of gender equality. After the end of EU funding, the module will remain a permanent part of the curriculum of the Faculty of Law at AAB, ensuring that future generations of lawyers are prepared to implement and promote European standards of justice and equality.
In this way, LEG-EU contributes to Kosovo’s European integration process, making higher legal education a sustainable force for reform and social justice.
