The Debate Club of the Faculty of English Language of AAB College held a debate session on the topic “The Importance of Civic Education in the school curriculum for young people”.
The debate was moderated by Artiola Kajtazi, debate coordinator, and a jury of teachers: Mirsad Suhodolli, Aida Thaqi and Gresa Shaqiri.
The discussion started with a short presentation by the coordinator who informed the debaters and the jury about the format of the debate and provided information on the topic of civic education. Students raised many important questions such as:
What are the benefits of civic education in schools?
Why is sex education important?
How does a country’s culture influence the inclusion of civic education as a subject in schools?
What should be taught in civic education classes?
At what age should students start learning about civic education? What kind of grading system should teachers of this subject use?
Jury members observed the discussion for the duration of 90 minutes. The jury then contributed to the discussion and evaluated the student’s performance while also giving tips on how to further improve their debating skills in the future.
