AAB College part of the “GREEN IMPACT” project for the green transition in higher education in the Western Balkans

5 November 2025

AAB College is part of the GREEN IMPACT project – Global Resilience through Educational Environmental Networks for Institutional Management, Professional Advancement and Community Transformation, funded by the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) Strand 2 programme.

Project Objective

The project aims to strengthen the capacities of higher education institutions in the Western Balkans to lead and support the green transition through a Whole Institutional Approach to sustainability.

The Western Balkans face major challenges in the transition process towards sustainable development, due to fossil fuel dependence, gaps in legislation and lack of skills for the green economy. Universities play a crucial role in addressing these challenges, but often face a lack of resources and outdated curricula.

Project Objectives

Prepare universities for the green transition through a Whole Institutional Approach that integrates sustainability into governance, teaching, research and management.

Develop a regional sustainability framework (GREEN IMPACT Framework) adapted to the socio-economic realities of the Western Balkans.

Create an institutional self-assessment tool to help universities measure their readiness for the green transition.

Develop micro-courses and training programs for academic and administrative staff, on the integration of sustainable practices into teaching and operational processes.

Draft institutional action plans for each participating university, based on consultations with stakeholders.

By the end of the project, partner universities will have developed clear sustainability policies, concrete action plans, online e-learning platforms, and curricula that include green competencies. In addition, a network of cooperation between academic institutions, the private sector and local communities will be established to strengthen the role of higher education in sustainable development.
