26 October 2021

Fake news and verification of facts in the reports of journalists in Kosovo during the pandemic, was the topic of discussion at the roundtable which was held at AAB College by the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK), in cooperation with the United Nation Mission in Kosovo.

This debate was attended by journalists from the media of Kosovo, who revealed to students the cases from their personal experiences during their reporting on the Covid-19 pandemic. The panel was chaired by the President of AJK, Xhemajl Rexha, while the panelists were journalists like Jehona Zhitia from RTK, Bujar Vitija from Gazeta Shneta, Arbreshë Uka from Klan Kosova, Gentiana Hasani from RTK and Anđelka Ćup from Euronews.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, Hasan Saliu, said that this was a good opportunity for the journalism students of AAB College who listened to the professional experiences of journalists in the era of fake news. “The Faculty of Mass Communication unhesitatingly supported the idea of AJK on this topic due to the relevance and importance of the topic, as well as because half of the panelists are AAB alumni, who have studied journalism at AAB, have made a name for themselves in the Kosovo media and now come and share their experiences with the students of the institution where they studied”.

The students then asked some questions to the panelists which were mainly related to the verification of facts, the possibility of providing facts at a time when the country’s institutions were not very transparent during the pandemic as well as ethical issues during the reporting of the journalist.

This activity was a continuation of the cooperation that AAB College has with the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK).
