EUA Thematic Group meets in Nice to advance transnational staff development in higher education

10 June 2025

The first meeting of the Thematic Group on Teaching and Learning of the European University Association (EUA), on the theme “Staff Development and Transnational Cooperation”, took place on 5–6 June 2025 at the Université Côte d’Azur in Nice. Over the two days, representatives of higher education institutions from across Europe gathered to share experiences and discuss institutional approaches aimed at improving the quality of teaching through international cooperation.

This group operates within the framework of the STAFF-DEV project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, and aims to explore new and systematic ways of professional development of academic staff at international level. The meeting, moderated by representatives of Linköping University (Sweden), Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany) and Université Côte d’Azur (France), included strategic discussions and the exchange of practices. Representatives from universities such as Warwick (UK), Tbilisi Medical Academy (Georgia), Huelva (Spain) and the National Polytechnic University (Armenia) also participated. The recommendations will be reflected in an official EUA publication and will contribute to the European Forum for Academic Staff Development to be held in 2026.

AAB College was represented in this Working Group by Venera Llunji, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Cooperation, and Ereza Mehmeti, Project Development Officer, who played an extremely active role during the two days of the meeting. Through their experience, practical examples, suggestions and problem-solving-oriented approaches, they made a significant contribution to the discussions and outcomes of this first meeting, being considered among the main contributors to the group. The same Working Group will also participate in the second meeting scheduled for September 2025.
