Aim and program profile

The mission of the Bsc Banking, Finance and Accounting program is to prepare students with theoretical knowledge and research skills in the field of banking, finance and accounting for the labor market in Kosovo and beyond, offering advanced and modern teaching methodologies that contribute to the improvement of current practices and adapt innovative trends in the financial sector and society in general. This program will help students build their personality with strong ethical, analytical and problem-solving skills through critical thinking. Students will be able to recognize the challenges of banking and finance management from different perspectives and have sufficient knowledge on the relationship of banks and the financial sector with other disciplines. This program will build a powerful system that would enable students to realize their potential as responsible managers, to think clearly, judge wisely, communicate effectively and act with integrity at all times.

Upon completion of studies, candidates receive the designation: Bachelor of Economics – Banking, Finance and Accounting

Duration of studies and workload

Studies in the Banking, Finance and Accounting Program last 3 years, 180 ECTS with a total of 6 semesters. Each semester must meet the quota of 30 ECTS.

Year I

Microeconomics I 7 ECTS

This course aims to equip students with the fundamentals of microeconomic theory as a branch of economics. The focus will be on the choices and decisions made by individuals and firms under conditions of limited resources. Special attention will be given to markets and related aspects, price determination, and resource allocation.

Mathematics for Business and Economics 7 ECTS

The main objective of the course “Mathematics for Economics and Business” is to equip students with critical and logical thinking skills for solving various mathematical problems and making decisions at both the macroeconomic and microeconomic levels through the use of mathematical models and specialized techniques.

English Language I 6 ETCS

The main objective of the course “English Language 1” is to develop students’ speaking and writing skills in English within the field of economics and business. Additionally, it enables students to enhance their critical and logical thinking in structuring sentences correctly while using specialized economic terminology.

Informatics 5 ECTS

The general objective of this course is to equip students with the knowledge and skills that ICT offers in solving various problems through the use of computers. Students will develop competencies that will help them fulfill daily tasks, ranging from acquiring basic knowledge in Windows to creating presentations in PowerPoint, performing fundamental and advanced tasks in Excel, and understanding databases in Access.

Accountant in Business Elective 5 ECTS

The main objective of the course “The Accountant in Business” is to equip students with an understanding of the structure, organization, and organizational culture in business, as well as to demonstrate accounting principles and financial functions within a business.

Ethics in Business Elective 5 ECTS

The course “Business Ethics” aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and analyze ethics as a vital component of business, management, and professional relationships. Through this course, students will develop the ability to reflect on ethical reasoning in business decision-making and assess the impact of ethics on organizational success.

Year I Semester II
Macroeconomics 7 ECTS

The course “Macroeconomics” aims to equip students with fundamental knowledge of macroeconomic theories, concepts, and practices, helping them develop and advance their understanding of macroeconomics as a foundation for the functioning of a national economy within the global economic system.

Statistics for Economics and Business 7 ECTS

The primary objective of the course “Statistics for Economics and Business” is to equip students with theoretical knowledge and analytical/creative skills for applying statistical tools and results in the fields of economics and business.

Accounting 6 ECTS

The course “Accounting” aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of accounting and an understanding of its role in the management system of business entities. It also focuses on familiarizing students with the essential concepts and principles used in building an accounting system that ensures reliable and high-quality financial information through financial statements.

Business Communications and Academic Writing 5 ECTS

The goal of this course is to enable students to not only identify communication strategies presented as economic messages but, first and foremost, to become critical observers of any message. Additionally, students will be encouraged to identify the attributes embedded in a message and to create such messages themselves.

Business Law Elective 5 ECTS

Business Law is a course aimed at the intellectual and professional development of students, especially those who will be engaged in the business field in the future. Now more than ever, this course is of particular importance as Kosovo is undergoing a legal and economic transformation.

The History of Economic Thought Elective 5 ECTS

The course History of Economic Thought aims to provide students with general knowledge about the history of the economic development of nations, covering different periods of political, social, and economic transition.

English Language II Elective 5 ECTS

The main goal of the course “English Language 2” is to develop students’ speaking and writing skills in the English language within the field of economics. The course enables students to develop critical and logical thinking in formulating sentences correctly, using terminology from the field of economics.

Year II

Currency, Banks, and Loans 7 ECTS

The main goal of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge in the field of the banking system, specifically the operation of banks and other financial and non-financial institutions, their role in the economy, and the function of money as a medium of exchange and a measure of value.

Financial Accounting 7 ECTS

The goal of the Financial Accounting course is to develop knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts related to financial accounting, and technical skills in using double-entry accounting techniques, including the preparation of basic financial statements.

Management 6 ECTS

This course aims to equip students with the critical knowledge and skills of management involved in planning, structuring, controlling, and leading an organization. Simultaneously, it aims to develop students’ contemporary conceptual and methodological knowledge and skills (know-how) in management, to diagnose and suggest appropriate solutions for various managerial and organizational cases.

Public Finance 5 ECTS

The main goal of the course “Public Finance” is to equip students with an understanding of the concept and function of public finances, with a particular emphasis on fundamental knowledge of economic issues related to the public sector.

Development Economics Elective 5 ECTS

The main goal of the course “Development Economics” is to help students gain a deeper understanding of critical issues surrounding economic development, particularly in the context of Kosovo. The course aims to provide students with an understanding of both traditional and contemporary perspectives on economic development. Students will become familiar with and evaluate the role of various development factors in Kosovo, including national and international resources for economic growth, as well as the country’s economic structure.

European Economic Integrations Elective 5 ECTS

The aim of this course is to introduce students to essential information regarding regional economic integrations, with a particular emphasis on the European Union (EU). Another goal of this course is for students to learn about the importance of economic integration as opposed to political integration. Students will be introduced to the history of the creation of the European Union and its institutions, as well as the Copenhagen criteria for EU integration.

Introduction to Econometry

The main goal of the course “Introduction to Econometrics” is to equip students with fundamental econometric knowledge, understanding basic econometric models, applying them through various software tools, and interpreting the results, which are essential for analyses in the fields of economics and business.

Year II Semester IV
Macroeconomics II 7 ECTS

The goal of the course “Macroeconomics II” is to expand knowledge of the principles of how a national economy functions. The course also covers a wide range of essential concepts in a national economy, including national income, open economy principles, the monetary system, government budget and debt, aggregate demand, labor market principles, aggregate supply, unemployment and inflation, economic growth, economic fluctuations, and business cycles.

Fintech and Digital Banking 7 ECTS

“FinTech and Digital Banking” aims to provide students with a valuable understanding of the digital field and banking, providing practical knowledge necessary for the preparation of reports, analysis of bank performance in this new challenging ecosystem, being based on practical examples and theories, to develop key management skills and tools to further contribute to the banking industry.

Financial Management 6 ECTS

The subject “Financial Management” aims to provide students with the knowledge to develop the knowledge and skills expected of a financial manager, in relation to issues affecting investments, financing and dividend policy decisions.

Marketing and Digital Marketing for Banks 5 ECTS

The aim of the course “Marketing and Digital Banking Marketing” is to provide in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the field of marketing and digital marketing, with a special emphasis on the banking sector. The main aim is to prepare students to become successful marketing professionals in the banking industry by equipping them with the latest knowledge, innovative strategies and the ability to use digital tools and platforms.

Globalization Trends Elective 5 ECTS

The main goal of this course is to familiarize students with the principles, concepts, and multidimensional trends of globalization, as well as to provide scientific knowledge and explanations for global processes, the role of developed countries and international organizations in global trends, and the policies or interests of major powers in the global economy.

Local Finances Elective 5 ECTS

Local Public Finance aims to acquire theoretical and basic knowledge in the field of local public finance, the local budget and its structure, the definition, characteristics and classification of local taxes, local taxes and to provide an overview of the use of municipal funds.

Computerized Accounting Elective 5 ECTS

The aim of this course is to help students understand and gain fundamental knowledge in informatized accounting process and to provide them with practical experience in developing the skills to master the practical aspects of computerized accounting.

Year III

Financial Analysis 7 ETCS

The lectures and exercises in Financial Analysis aim to help students deepen their understanding of the standard concept of financial statements according to accounting standards, financial reporting standards, and the requirements set by the authorities and the Kosovo Financial Reporting Council.

Managerial Accounting 7 ECTS

The main objective of the course is to present to students the importance of accounting information as a management tool for making appropriate managerial decisions.

Financial Markets and Institutions 6 ETCS

The general objective of the course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge of the structure, characteristics, and participants of the financial system.

Bank and Risk Management 5 ECTS

The subject aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge in the identification and management of risks faced by financial institutions, which will enable students to be able to identify and apply strategies and models for identifying, measuring, evaluating and reducing risks in order to increase efficiency in the business of financial institutions.

Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence Elective 5 ECTS

The main purpose of the course is to equip students with theoretical knowledge about the rapid developments of artificial intelligence incorporating business data (big data) and to develop creative skills for using different artificial intelligence platforms in marketing and business.

Financial Reporting Elective 5 ECTS

The Financial Reporting course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the basic concepts and principles of financial reporting, to understand and apply accounting standards, financial reporting and the theoretical framework in the preparation of financial statements of economic entities, including groups, and how to analyze and interpretation of those insights.

Monetary Economics Elective 5 ECTS

The Monetary Economics course aims to enable students to understand and apply advanced theoretical and professional knowledge in the field of economics and monetary analysis.

E-Business Elective 5 ETCS

The course aims to study the impact of digital technology on business strategies, focusing on the demands of the national, regional, and global markets. It is based on transitioning from the classical business model to a digital system, aligned with global trends, enabling entrepreneurs to have easier access to the global market through technology systems.

Year III Semester VI
Corporate Finance 7 ECTS

The subject “Corporate Finances” aims to provide students with basic knowledge about the large enterprise, the corporation’s leadership and functioning in the realization of its annual plans. The course will focus both on the theoretical aspects, but with a special focus on the practical ones which will enable the students to acquire the knowledge, skills and competences necessary for the recognition of corporations in the local and international market.

Diploma Thesis 7 ECTS

The course is intended to enable the student to develop deeper knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes in the context of the study program. The thesis topic should be written at the end of the program and offers the opportunity to go deeper and synthesize the knowledge gained in previous studies.

Project Management 6 ECTS

The overall goal is to create the skills (knowledge and skills) to plan, evaluate and manage the implementation of projects effectively according to different methodologies and international standards.

Auditing 5 ECTS

This course aims to present a conceptual and practical approach to auditing to ensure that students gain knowledge of Internal Auditing, External Auditing, Cash Auditing, types of auditing, stages of auditing, auditing processes and the relationship between auditing, accounting financial, corporate governance and legislation.

International Finance Elective 5 ECTS

The International Finance course aims to equip students with theoretical and applied knowledge of international finance. A thorough grasp of international finance is necessary given the current integration and globalization of the world. Modern theories of international finance and their useful real-world applications are the main topics of this course.

Fiscal and Monetary System of EU Elective 5 ECTS

The purpose of this course is to provide students with knowledge about the fiscal and monetary system of the EU, including the operation, structure and impact of these policies, in order to create a genuine theoretical scientific basis on the applicability of this system in member countries as well as the possibility of adaptation in countries outside the European Union such as Kosovo.

Digital Economy Elective 5 ECTS

The main aim of the course Digital Economics is to equip students with theoretical basis about how the information and digitalization influences businesses and markets.

Commercial Laws and Taxes in Kosovo Elective 5 ECTS

The main purpose of the course is to introduce students and give you the basic knowledge about the legal requirements related to taxes and commercial aspects of enterprises in Kosovo. This syllabus also aims to acquaint students with the technical principles and areas of taxation and commercial law, as they affect the activities of individuals and businesses in Kosovo.
