Producer/Editor/Director
Zijad Mehic is professor emeritus, a Bosnian Producer, Editor and Director. He holds a degree University of Belgrade, Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Department for Film and TV Editing. Media as Business United States Agency for International Development, Seattle, Washington.
He began his professional career in 1972 at Television Sarajevo, where he worked as an editor, producer, and director. Until 1996, he created and shaped numerous documentary, entertainment, and fiction television programs, leaving a significant mark on the cultural landscape of the former Yugoslavia.
From 1992 to 2002, he worked as an editor, producer, and director for the Sarajevo bureau of Germany’s ARD television network, covering the dramatic events in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region, delivering tens of thousands of minutes of broadcast content.
Between 1998 and 2004, as General Director, producer, and director of Refresh Production in Sarajevo, he realized numerous domestic and international film and television projects.
From 2004 to 2007, he served as Head of News Programming at BHRT (Bosnia and Herzegovina Radio Television), where he further demonstrated his leadership and organizational skills in public broadcasting.
Throughout his extensive professional career, he has produced, directed, or edited more than 100 television and film works, including award-winning projects such as 10 Minutes, Fire, Fresh Made in BiH, Graffiti Streets, and Kinofil. His creative work spans diverse genres, including documentary series, short fiction films, entertainment shows, international festivals, and educational projects.
His achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including multiple annual recognitions from Television Sarajevo, the Journalists’ Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina award for best TV programming, and international awards at festivals in Locarno, Rome, Sarajevo, Pula, Prague, and other European cultural centers.
Since 1989, he has been actively engaged as a lecturer at the Academy of Performing Arts of the University of Sarajevo, where he educated generations of young film and television professionals. He advanced from lecturer to full professor, taking on leadership roles such as Vice-Dean, Dean, member of the University Senate, and was ultimately honored with the title of Professor Emeritus.
From 2007 onward, he expanded my academic activities to AAB University in Pristina, Kosovo, and since 2011 to the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Banja Luka, continuing to share his expertise with students throughout the region.
He has also participated in numerous international educational projects and programs, including TEMPUS, as well as European cultural initiatives in the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Indonesia, and other countries. His roles included guest lecturer, project manager, and mentor within programs supported by the European Commission, the European Broadcasting Union, and various bilateral collaborations.
Today, as Professor Emeritus at the University of Sarajevo and AAB University in Prishtina, he remains dedicated to mentoring, lecturing, and consulting on creative projects, with a commitment to advancing contemporary audiovisual art and developing the cultural scene of the region and Europe.
