This project aims to discover how humor literacy can be used to reframe conflicts and controversial issues in the public sphere, bringing great benefits to European society. By fostering cultural awareness and increasing intercultural communication, the project will contribute to a richer dialogue at the public level.

The main objectives of the project include:

• Creating a sustainable network of academic and non-academic actors to collaborate in analyzing and promoting humor literacy.
• Developing a complex analysis of humor at three different levels to evaluate different perspectives on humor and its impact.
• Conducting a cross-cultural comparative study on the use of humor and humor literacy in 11 EU and 3 non-EU countries, focusing on aspects of humor that promote dialogue and avoid conflict in the public sphere.
• Understanding the ways humor literacy can be used as a tool to combat conspiracy theories, misinformation and discrimination.
• Testing existing theories of humor against new types of data, including visual and audiovisual humor, multimedia Internet memes, and humorous interactions.
