WB-EDU4MIGRATION” Alleviating Migration Challenges in the Western Balkans: Bridging the Skills Gap for Social Service Providers through Curriculum Improvement and Micro-credential Development

30 July 2024

The European Commission, through the Capacity Building in Higher Education program, has approved the WB-Edu4Migration project with a total amount of 400,000 euros. AAB College is the bearer of this project and at the same time the only institution of higher education in Kosovo that is beneficiary of a project as a bearer in this round of calls.

The WB-Edu4Migration project is an initiative that aims to address the limited competencies of social workers in Kosovo and Albania, including their ability to effectively support migrant populations. Study programs in higher education institutions, related to social work, have not yet fully included courses on migration studies and related issues. This educational gap hinders the ability of social workers to understand and address the unique challenges faced by migrant populations, increasing the need for interventions aimed at alleviating this issue.

The main goal of the project is to improve the competences of students and social workers in Kosovo and Albania to better support migrant populations. This will be achieved through a multi-dimensional approach that includes educational reforms, the development of digital micro-credential courses and ongoing capacity building activities. By addressing basic and ongoing training needs, the project aims to empower current and future social workers with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to effectively serve the migrant community and advocate for their needs within the social work profession.

The success of the project will bring significant benefits: improved curricula in higher education will better prepare future social workers to support migrant populations, while digital micro-credential courses will provide flexible professional development opportunities for social workers in duty.
