Aims and profile of the study program

The Master’s Program in Mental Health addresses students’ needs to further expand their knowledge and develop abilities and skills in the field of mental health and clinical psychology. The continuation of offering the program at the Master’s level provides opportunities to educate and prepare mental health psychologists who serve to improve the mental health status of the citizens of Kosovo, contributing to filling the existing gap in this field.

The Master’s Program in Mental Health is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to contribute effectively in their field, while respecting diversity, ethical principles, and social justice. Students are trained to provide evidence-based interventions and to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, addressing the complex challenges of mental health in a social context characterized by experiences of war and major political, social, and economic transitions.

Through a student-centered approach, practical learning experiences, and a particular focus on cultural competence, as well as through engagement in research activities, students and graduates contribute to the provision of effective and culturally sensitive services, promote mental well-being, and take action toward sustainable improvements in the health and community systems.

The mission of the Mental Health Master’s program is “to equip students with advanced academic and practical expertise in mental health, enabling them to deliver evidence-based interventions with cultural sensitivity and a commitment to social justice and contribute to the improvement of society’s well-being in Kosovo and wider.”

Admission to studies

Master’s studies have the right to enroll all candidates who have completed the basic Bachelor’s studies and have earned at least 180 credits (ECTS) or 240 credits (ECTS). To be admitted to Master’s studies, students must:

In case the student has completed prior studies in another field, the student is required to undergo the basic examinations of the Bachelor program in Psychology, which are referred to as differential exams.

Number of study places

The number of study places, according to the decision of KAA, is 60 students per academic year.

Recognition of qualifications

According to the Regulation on Master Studies at AAB College, the recognition of qualifications and the transfer of studies are governed by Articles 9, 10, and 11.

These articles outline the conditions, criteria, and procedures for admitting students from other higher education institutions, the method for transferring credits, and the process for recognizing and equating previously completed courses.

Duration and number of ECTS

Studies in the MSc Mental Health program last 2 years, with 120 ECTS in total and 4 semesters.

Level and Academic Degree

Upon completion of the studies, students are awarded the academic title Master of Science (MSc) in Mental Health

Upon completing the Master’s level in Mental Health, graduates will not only be qualified to work as licensed clinical psychologists but will also have the opportunity to make significant contributions in various sectors, including:

Assessment methods

Learning outcomes in the MSc Mental Health program are assessed through written examinations or in-class tests, case studies, seminar papers, individual assignments, reviews of scientific articles, oral presentations, practical work, the final dissertation, etc.

Since the study program is at the Master’s level, the methods used to assess student performance are designed to specifically evaluate the following: research and literature review skills, data processing, application of research methods, computer literacy, the ability to contextualize and evaluate, presentation and professionalism skills, as well as cooperation and teamwork.
