The students of the Faculty of English Language conducted a study visit to the Directorate for Standardization, Approximation and Legal Harmonization in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo in order to get better acquainted with the process of translation of laws that are approved by the Assembly.
During the visit, the students were received by the senior officer of this Directorate, Vjollca Sogojeva, who gave a detailed lecture on the characteristics of the legal language, the problems related to legal terminology during translation, and the linguistic and non-linguistic skills that an interpreter should have in order to achieve a qualitative translation. Among other things, Mrs. Sogojeva said that this was the first such visit of the Kosovo Assembly, where students expressed interest in being informed about the process of translation of legal documents.
The students then followed up with questions and discussions about the importance of the translation service and the possibility of a more detailed training in the future. After the activity, students were given the opportunity to visit the Visitors Hall at the Assembly premises, during which they were introduced to its history.
This visit serves to build a bridge of communication with the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo where English Language students can eventually perform their internships.
