Prof. Steve H. Hanke at AAB College: Reflections on Monetary Reform and the Future of the Global Economy

19 February 2026

AAB College organized the International Scientific Roundtable, a high-level academic event that brought together distinguished scholars and experts in Pristina to address the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on education, scientific research, and the global economy.

During the panel discussions, particular emphasis was placed on the urgent need for the strategic reorientation of university curricula and research methodologies. Participants underscored that the integration of AI into higher education institutions must be guided by an ethical and responsible approach, strengthening institutional capacities to respond to the demands of the digital age.

A special contribution to the roundtable was made by Professor Steve H. Hanke of Johns Hopkins University, one of the world’s most influential economists, who shared his analysis of the architecture of the international financial system.

Experiences in the Balkans: He recalled the monetary reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, emphasizing that currency boards and monetary stability are prerequisites for economic sovereignty.

The Dominance of the U.S. Dollar: Prof. Hanke rejected predictions of the decline of the U.S. dollar, arguing that its strength stems from institutional trust and its broad global usage.

The Renminbi’s Outlook: According to Prof. Hanke, China’s currency is likely to experience cautious growth but remains constrained by capital controls.

The roundtable continued with presentations on the role of AI in entrepreneurship, marketing, and innovation. International professors emphasized that advanced technologies represent the new engine of economic development, particularly for developing countries seeking to build sustainable academic and professional capacities.

This event reaffirms AAB College’s role as a leader in regional scientific debate and as a bridge between international academic thought and the economic realities of Kosovo and the wider region.
