Prof. Aleksandar Takovski, born on January 31, 1978, in Skopje, North Macedonia, is an Associate Professor of Text Linguistics at AAB College in Kosovo, where he has been engaged since 2019. With a distinguished academic and professional trajectory spanning over two decades, his expertise lies at the intersection of discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, humor studies, and political communication.
He earned his PhD in Linguistics from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje in 2014 with a dissertation titled “Creation of Humour in Fantasy Novels: Language, Literature, Culture.” He also holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics (2009), with a focus on the semiotics of advertising teasers, and a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from the same university (2002).
His academic career began at the South East European University (SEEU) in Tetovo, where he progressed from Lecturer (2001–2009) to Senior Lecturer (2009–2017), before joining the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities (ISSHS) in Skopje as Assistant Professor (2017–2019). Since joining AAB College, he has taught both undergraduate and graduate-level courses in linguistics and literature, including Research Methodology, Lexicology, and English for Specific Purposes.
Prof. Takovski is an active researcher and project coordinator with extensive involvement in competitive international research. He is currently engaged in several Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ initiatives, including “HUMLIT,” which examines humor across European public spheres, “PLURILINGUAL MEDIA” focusing on linguistic plurality in media, and “Y-JustLang,” aimed at enhancing justice access for youth through language support. He also coordinates the Erasmus+ “MORIN” project, which focuses on mobility and recognition in higher education.
His research contributions span critical discourse analysis, ethnic and national identity, and humor studies, with an interdisciplinary approach that bridges linguistics, politics, and education. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals, including Discourse & Society, Journal of Sociolinguistics, Journal of Language and Politics, HUMOR: International Journal of Humor Research, and the European Journal of Humour Research. His books include Humour in the Modern Fantasy Novel, The Semiotics of Advertising Teasers, and a children’s book co-authored with his daughter titled We Have a Story, Dad!
Prof. Takovski is also an experienced trainer and academic mentor. He has supervised over 20 MA theses and has conducted workshops and training sessions on academic writing, research methodologies, and education for teachers and scholars across Europe. He has presented his work at numerous international conferences in Poland, Estonia, Slovenia, Greece, the Netherlands, and the United States, often addressing issues such as political discourse, ethnic humor, and educational policy.
In addition to his academic and project work, Prof. Takovski serves on the editorial board of journals like Thesis Journal, and is President of the Didacta Nova association in Macedonia. He is also an active member of the Macedonian Association of Political Scientists.
A multilingual academic, he is fluent in Macedonian, English, and several South Slavic languages, with working proficiency in Spanish, Albanian, and French. His scholarly influence and dedication to interdisciplinary research continue to shape the fields of linguistic and political discourse, making him a prominent voice in both academic and policy-making communities.
