The Faculty of Psychology at AAB College, organized a roundtable discussion titled “Intergenerational Trauma and Transitional Justice”, an event that brought together professionals and experts from various fields to discuss the impact of inherited trauma and the role of institutions.
The panel was attended by Ms. Adile Shaqiri – Head of the Division for Social and Family Services Policies from the Ministry of Justice, Ms. Venesa Sulimani – Activist and public speaker, engaged in issues of intergenerational trauma and the rights of children affected by sexual violence, Mr. Valdon Bytyçi – Senior Officer for Transitional Justice, Ministry of Justice, Ms. Arjeta Ahmedi – Clinical Psychologist, SOS Villages of Kosovo.
The discussion addressed the ways in which trauma is transmitted through silence, family narratives and institutional mistrust, as well as the importance of transitional justice in restoring dignity and social trust. Panelists shared perspectives on current challenges in social services, the psychological consequences of inherited trauma, and the need for coordinated inter-institutional policies.
The event concluded by emphasizing that addressing intergenerational trauma requires ongoing dialogue, transparency, and collaboration, as the basis for a healthier and more just society for future generations.
