The Faculty of Foreign Languages Student Book Club concluded the last session of the semester with a discussion of Edward Morgan Forster’s classic novel “A Room with a View.”
Students discussed the book’s rich themes, including social frameworks versus personal freedom, the conflict between passion and proper behavior, and the transformative power of love and self-discovery.
The student group also focused on Forster’s critique of contemporary society and analyzed the symbolic contrast between the energy of Italy and the constraints of England. Students also examined literary techniques such as irony, symbolism, and free indirect discourse, which deepen the novel’s emotional and social commentary.
Participating professors encouraged students to read as much as possible and broaden their horizons through the rich world of books.
At the end of the session, students proposed a list of books for their upcoming discussions for the next academic year.
