US Embassy in Prishtina and AAB College bring cyber security expert, Fulbright Specialist, Prof. William Butler to Kosovo

With the support of the US Embassy in Prishtina, Fulbright Specialist, Prof. William Butler from the United States will pay a working visit to the Faculty of Computer Science of AAB College, from November 17 to 30, 2019.

Prof. Butler will come to Kosovo on account of the AAB College project “Cyber Security Challenges in Developing Countries” awarded by Fulbright.

The purpose of this project is to improve existing security policies in Kosovo by using advanced technology and best practices implemented today. Students, professors, and other industry professionals will have the opportunity to learn best practices to protect network infrastructure and sensitive data.

Professor William (Bill) Butler is the Chairman of the Cyber Security Program and director of the Center for Critical Infrastructure and Cyber Defense (CICPC) at Capitol University of Technology, Washington, D.C. He has over 20 years of experience in the networking and IT industries as a network engineer and as a consultant. Bill has also served as a joint qualified communications information systems officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he retired as a Colonel with 30 years of service.

He continues to contribute to many working groups, such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology Cloud Computing Security Working Group (NIST CCSFWG), the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), Big Data and Mobile Computing Working Group, the National CyberWatch Center Curriculum Taskforce as well as the National Cybersecurity Student Association Advisory Board

Professor William Butler completed his doctoral studies at Capitol University of Technology in 2016 in the field of consumer-oriented mobile phone security. His research interests also extend to protecting critical infrastructure and developing cloud models and security methods in combating international cybercrime.

AAB College will be a key research partner in the field of cyber security and will play an important role in the study and resolution of cyber security related issues in Kosovo and in the region.

The project will be managed by Dr. Sc. Arianit Maraj, Fulbright Alumni, who is a professor at the Faculty of Computer Science at AAB College. 

AAB College and Prof. William Butler, will continue their work together even after the completion of this project.
