15 May 2019

Kosovo journalists need to do more than just write news. They should strive to research and gather accurate information in order to provide a deeper understanding of socio-political developments.

This was said, among other things, during the debate organized by the Faculty of Mass Communication at AAB College on the topic “Challenges of the journalist and journalism in Kosovo”, which was attended by Gentiana Begolli, President of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo, Arben Ahmeti, program director at Dukagjini Television, Besnik Krasniqi, editor at the newspaper ‘Koha Ditore’ and Zekirija Shabani, editor-in-chief at the newspaper ‘INFOKUS’.

During this interactive debate between students and panelists, it was said that journalism in Kosovo has its advantages, but there are also challenges faced by journalists during the realization of their stories.

Gentiana Begolli, President of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo, encouraged young journalists, AAB students, not to remain silent in the future and to report on any threats or obstacles made to them in the course of their work, because only thus will journalists be able to do their job.

Besnik Krasniqi, editor of the newspaper ‘Koha Ditore’, during his speech, added that the profession of journalism in Kosovo is changing every day. He shared with the students his experiences and research as a journalist and made comparisons between television and online journalism.

Participating in this debate were also journalists Arben Ahmeti and Zekirija Shabani, who spoke about their experiences in journalism and created a very interactive debate with students present at this activity which took place as a part of the “Days of the Faculty of Mass Communication” activity.
