ONLINE WORKSHOP ON PROJECTING GEOSPATIAL POINTS ON EQUIRECTANGULAR MAPS

16 April 2021

The next workshop organized by the Faculty of Computer Science at AAB will be on the projection of geospatial points on the Equirectangular maps and will be held online, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, starting at 20:00.

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to cartographic projections, which have seen use even 2000 years ago! Wikipedia alone can find over 40 types of projections, which are presented in different ways and are based on various mathematical models ranging from the simplest to the most complex.

Among the simplest and most practical projections for use is the Equirectangular projection, which distorts reality but can very easily find geospatial points through the use of software.

In this workshop, we will get acquainted with the Equirectangular maps and the method of projecting the geospatial points on these maps through code, where we will specifically see the location of the cities through Latitude and Longitude.

Those interested can apply via email: [email protected]. The workshop will be held online on Wednesday, April 21 at 20:00.
