Prof. Dr. Mirvan Xhemaili is a distinguished scholar with a strong academic background, holding two doctoral degrees in the fields of Philology and Public Policy. His interdisciplinary academic journey reflects his dedication to linguistic studies and public policy.
He earned his first PhD in Philology from the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia, during the years 2009–2013. His doctoral dissertation, titled “The Role of the Mother Tongue in Learning and Teaching English as a Foreign Language,” explored the complex relationship between native language interference and the acquisition of English among foreign learners. This research contributed to a deeper understanding of language transfer and provided pedagogical recommendations for improving English language instruction in multilingual contexts.
In parallel with his expertise in language studies, Prof. Dr. Xhemaili pursued a second PhD in Public Policy and Political Science at the South East European University in Tetovo, Republic of North Macedonia, completing his studies between 2014 and 2017. With this academic achievement, he expanded his research focus to encompass the intersection of language, educational policy, and international relations.
His academic foundation was built with a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Tirana, Albania (1994–1999). This program equipped him with advanced knowledge in English linguistics, literary studies, and the methodological foundations of language teaching. To complement his educational expertise, he also completed a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Political Science at the South East European University in Tetovo (2006–2008), gaining broader insights into political processes, public governance, and policy analysis.
Prof. Dr. Xhemaili has a long academic career that combines university teaching, scientific research, and international academic collaboration. Since 2017, he has served as a full-time professor at AAB College in Kosovo, within the Faculty of Foreign Languages. In this role, he teaches courses in English linguistics, English language teaching methodologies, literature, and scientific communication. His teaching philosophy emphasizes student-centered learning, intercultural competence, and the integration of research into the teaching process.
During the academic year 2021–2022, he also held a part-time teaching position at the University of Prizren “Ukshin Hoti,” where he contributed to the English language program by delivering lectures in applied linguistics and communicative language teaching methodologies.
His academic journey began at the South East European University in Tetovo, Republic of North Macedonia, where he served as a professor for a decade (2003–2013). His duties included lecturing in English language teaching, applied linguistics, and academic writing, as well as mentoring students at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in curriculum development, quality assurance processes, and program accreditation.
Beyond teaching, Prof. Dr. Xhemaili has continuously pursued professional development through participation in prestigious international programs. In 2003, he successfully completed a six-month program at Indiana University, United States, focused on English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This experience enhanced his expertise in designing and delivering customized courses tailored to the needs of students and professionals in various fields.
In 2022, he completed an advanced three-month training program at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, specializing in scientific communication and effective engagement with policymakers. This training reflects his commitment to promoting scientific education, building bridges between academia and the public, and increasing the visibility of research.
Since 2022, Prof. Dr. Xhemaili has also served as a trainer in scientific communication at academic institutions in Kosovo and North Macedonia. Through these initiatives, he has contributed to building the capacities of academics, researchers, and students in effectively communicating scientific knowledge to various audiences, including policymakers and the general public.
Prof. Dr. Xhemaili has made significant contributions in the fields of English language teaching, applied linguistics, research on language transfer, scientific communication, and public diplomacy. His academic work includes numerous articles published in peer-reviewed international journals, several of which are indexed in SCOPUS, reflecting his dedication to academic excellence and research integrity.
His research areas include the impact of native language interference on English language acquisition, innovative methodologies in English language teaching, the role of scientific communication in public policy, and the importance of English language skills in international relations and diplomacy. His work integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experiences, aiming to improve academic and pedagogical approaches in these areas.
