Ramë Buja

Prof. Ass. Dr. Ramë Buja was born on July 5, 1958 in the village of Bujan, Lipjan Municipality. He is one of the most well-known figures in academic, political and intellectual life in Kosovo, with a career spanning several decades that includes important engagements in higher education, governance, diplomacy and scientific research.

He pursued and completed his studies at the University of Prishtina, initially graduating from the Faculty of Philosophy in the Albanian Language and Literature department, to continue his studies at the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Law. In 2004 he received the title of Master of Laws in the field of Political and Administrative Leadership, while in 2006 he was awarded the title of Doctor of Political Sciences.

His academic career has been as rich as his political one. He has lectured at many higher education institutions, including the University of Prishtina, the South East European University in Tetovo, “Victory” University, “Fama” College, and since 2006 he has been a continuous part of the academic staff at AAB College. At AAB, he has taught courses such as Political Systems, Political and Legal Thought, Fundamentals of Law, History of Diplomacy, Introduction to Political Sciences, etc. Prof. Buja is known for his dedication and continuous influence in the education of students in political and legal sciences.

At the institutional level, Ramë Buja has held important positions in the political life of the country. He was Minister of Education, Science and Technology from 2011 to 2014, where he led with dedication one of the most vital departments for the development of the country. In the period 2004–2010, he was a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, where for several years he led the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo. His role in the interim government as Minister of Local Government in the years 1999–2000 was of particular importance in the phase of building post-war institutions. He was also a member of the Kosovo delegation at the Rambouillet Conference in 1999 and was a member of the KLA General Staff during the decisive period for the liberation of the country. 

In addition to his contribution to education and politics, Prof. Buja has also made a special contribution in the field of scientific studies and publications. He is the author and co-author of several important books, such as:

These works provide an in-depth overview of Kosovo’s political and state-building developments from an academic perspective and practical experience.

His scientific activity has also been represented at various international conferences, including his presentations at the AAB College for the 2021 parliamentary elections, as well as at the South East European University in Skopje on the topic of “Political Culture and Civic Participation”. His contributions as a researcher also include a considerable number of articles and essays, published in the country’s most popular newspapers and magazines, reflecting on the challenges of transition, political identity and historical developments of Kosovo.

For his many years of contribution to education and society, Prof. Ramë Buja was honored in 2024 with the title of “Honorary Professor” by the AAB College, as a symbolic appreciation for his continuous influence in raising the academic and intellectual quality in Kosovo.

He is also a member of the professional network NISPAcee – one of the most prestigious networks of public administration institutions and schools in Central and Eastern Europe, since 2003.

He is known for his multidisciplinary approach, creativity in teaching and commitment to increasing academic quality.

Prof. Ramë Buja is a father of three children, grandfather of one grandson and three granddaughters. He lives and works in Prishtina.
