Professor Eduardo Cuerda-Correa from the University of Extremadura delivered a lecture for students of the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Architecture at AAB College on the topic “Cork Beyond the Bottle: New Architectural Uses for a Traditional Material.”
During the lecture, participants were introduced to modern applications of cork in architecture and construction, with a particular focus on innovative and sustainable solutions for the building industry.
Professor Cuerda-Correa presented concrete research findings on cork-based concrete, highlighting its advantages, including reduced weight, improved thermal insulation, and enhanced acoustic performance. The lecture demonstrated how traditional materials can be adapted to meet contemporary architectural and environmental challenges.
The session offered students and participants valuable international perspectives, encouraging discussions on sustainable architecture, eco-friendly materials, and innovation in design. It also provided insight into current research and emerging trends that are shaping the future of the construction and architecture sectors.
Through this activity, students had the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge academic knowledge and gain a broader understanding of sustainable practices in modern architecture.
