The sounds of the Albanian Ocarina will be heard at the festival “PAAF 2019”

Students of the Faculty of Arts at AAB College are finalizing the creation of the earliest musical instrument known, the ocarina, an instrument discovered in the village of Runik in the municipality of Skenderaj.

The making of the ocarina instrument will be presented by the students during the festival days of “Prishtina Arts and Architecture Festival” (PAAF 2019), which is coming this year with its second edition.

The Ocarina Master, Shaqir Hoti, who is instructing the students how to make this tool said that the students have shown great enthusiasm towards undertaking this task.

“I’m very happy to be here with art students today, and I’m trying to teach them how the ocarina works. They are aware of the importance the ocarina instrument holds for Kosovo’s Culture.

We need to know that the more we promote this instrument, which is of autochthonous origin from Kosovo, the better it is for us. I wish that we have as many of these youth initiatives as possible, “said Mr. Hoti.

Even the students of the Faculty of Arts welcomed this workshop, which aims to promote the instrument discovered by archaeologists in the early 1970s in the village of Runik. The student of the Faculty of Musicology, Rinor Sadiku said that he and his peers, during their studies, have discussed a lot about the ocarina, but this workshop is helping them to see, in practice, all the procedures of its creation.

This workshop was organized by the Kosovo Stability Initiative, a European Commission project.

Ocarina will be part of the students’ exhibition within the “Prishtina Arts and Architecture Festival” to be held from 22-24 May 2019 at AAB College, where besides the professors and experts there will be space for a significant number of young artists, especially students.
