Besime Ziberi

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Besime Ziberi was born on February 17, 1988, in Tetovo, where she completed her primary and secondary education. In 2009, she graduated from the Faculty of Business and Economics at South East European University with a degree in “Business Administration” (https://www.seeu.edu.mk). In 2012, she completed her postgraduate studies at the same institution in the field of “Banking and Finance”, earning the title Master of Science in Economics (MSc). In 2016, she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Business and Economics, South East European University, entitled “Public Funding of Education and Its Impact on Economic Growth in the Republic of Macedonia: A Comparative Analytical Approach”, and was awarded the title Doctor of Economic Sciences, with a specialization in Economics (https://www.seeu.edu.mk).

Her professional career began immediately after graduation at South East European University, where she served as an Academic Advisor to students from 2009 to 2017, contributing to their academic and professional development. Since 2017, Prof. Ziberi has been a member of the academic staff at AAB College in Pristina (https://aab-edu.net), where she currently holds the position of Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics. She teaches at both bachelor and master levels and is actively involved in study program accreditation processes, thesis supervision, scientific research, and international collaboration.

Prof. Ziberi has an extensive academic and research profile. She serves as a reviewer for several internationally indexed scientific journals and is a member of editorial boards of open-access journals in the fields of economics and social sciences. She has also been invited as a keynote speaker at high-level international conferences, where she has addressed topics such as green economy, sustainable development, and the impact of emerging technologies on economic progress. 

As part of her international academic engagement, she has been appointed as an external member of scientific committees for the evaluation of PhD dissertations at regional universities, where she has provided methodological and content-based assessments in the fields of economics, finance, and sustainable development.

Professional and Scientific Experience

In the period of 2009, immediately after her graduation at the bachelor level from the Faculty of Business and Economics at the South East European University, Prof. Ziberi began working at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty, where she held the role of Academic Advisor until 2017. During this period, she provided valuable support and advice to students regarding academic requirements and career planning, playing an important role in their professional and academic development. As an academic advisor, she was responsible for advising students on degree requirements and career planning, providing ongoing support and guidance in achieving academic and professional goals. She made key academic decisions, including overseeing graduation and re-registration procedures, as well as overseeing internal and external student transfers. In this position, she monitored students’ academic progress, reviewing their files to ensure that degree requirements were being met, and actively participated in student administration and support services. Additionally, she identified students who were experiencing academic challenges and collaborated with them to develop appropriate solutions for improvement. She has also provided advice on the ECTS system and communicated the decisions taken by the Transfer Committee to the academic registry. Prof. Ziberi has provided valuable support and advice to students who were interested in international mobility opportunities, collaborating closely with the International Relations Office and the Faculty Mobility Coordinator. She also coordinated the Student Assessment process, ensuring that this process was organized and executed in accordance with university procedures and that proper reporting was ensured.

Professional and academic experience

AAB College – Faculty of Economics (2017–present)

Since 2017, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Besime Ziberi has been a professor at AAB College in the Faculty of Economics, where she teaches at the bachelor and master levels. Among the subjects she has taught at the bachelor level are: Macroeconomics I & II, Public Finance, Management, Financial Management, Operations Management, Globalization Trends. While at the master level she includes: Research Methodology, Financial Econometrics and Managerial Economics.

In addition to her commitment as a lecturer, Prof. Ziberi has contributed extensively to academic and research life at the institutional and international level. She is a regular supervisor of master’s level students, guiding their diploma theses and research projects in fields related to economics, management and finance. Prof. Ziberi is actively engaged in the process of accreditation and re-accreditation of study programs at the Faculty of Economics of AAB College, contributing to the development and assurance of academic quality and compliance with international standards.

Commitments and Participation in Councils and Conferences

Since 2024, Prof. Ziberi has been a member of the Scientific Council of AAB College, elected by the Senate for a three-year term, where she contributes to the strategic direction of the academic and research developments of the institution. She is also a member of the editorial and advisory boards of scientific journals, including International Journal Thesis of AAB College.

At this event, Prof. Ziberi was part of the EMERGE Dissemination Event session, focused on the impact of artificial intelligence and new technologies on economic, social and environmental development. Her speech, titled “Exploring the Intersection of AI and Economic Sustainability in the Western Balkans”, highlighted the role of new technologies in the economic sustainability of the region. This engagement highlighted her role as an expert on interdisciplinary issues and contributor to international research initiatives.

In the context of her international academic engagements, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Besime Ziberi has been appointed as an external member of the scientific committees for the evaluation and defense of doctoral theses. In this role, she has offered her expertise in assessing the scientific and methodological quality of doctoral dissertations.

In 2025, she was part of the committee for the evaluation of the doctoral thesis of candidate Kristina Velickovska, on the topic: “Income Inequality Determinants: Developed vs Developing European Countries”, defended at the International Balkan University in Skopje.

Also, in 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Besime Ziberi contributed to the evaluation of the doctoral thesis of candidate Anila Bejaj, on the topic: “Impact of Interest Rate on Capital Flows in the Western Balkan and European Union Countries”, defended at the International Balkan University in Skopje.

In the same year, she was part of the committee for the evaluation of the doctoral thesis of candidate Oltjon Bejaj, on the topic: “Impact of Public Debt on Foreign Direct Investment: The Case of Western Balkan and Central and Eastern European Union Countries”, defended at the International Balkan University in Skopje.

Completed trainings

Prof. Assoc. Dr. Besime Ziberi has attended a series of trainings and professional development programs aimed at improving her skills in teaching, scientific research and project development. In January 2025, she participated in the international workshop “Sustain Edu: Advancing Sustainable Development in Higher Education”, held at AAB College and funded by the International Visegrad Fund, for which she is certified. In November 2024, she successfully completed the basic training on project development, provided by the Center for Professional Training and Innovation (QAPI) at AAB College, where the main topics on project planning and implementation were covered. In February 2023, Prof. Ziberi participated in a specialized training on the evaluation of scientific articles, with a focus on research methodology and the peer-review process, organized by QAPI at AAB College. In early 2022, she attended training on integrating research into teaching, which addressed strategies for effectively incorporating research methodologies into the academic process. During 2020, she participated in several trainings focused on online teaching and academic integrity. In October and November of this year, she completed trainings on effective distance teaching and online learning, for which she was prepared in a focused manner for the challenges of virtual education. In August 2020, she also received training on the use of the Turnitin platform, for detecting plagiarism and ensuring academic integrity, within the framework of the AAB College academic transparency policies.

2025 – Sustain Edu Workshop: Participant in the workshop organized by AAB College as part of the Sustain Edu project, supported by the International Visegrad Fund, focused on advancing sustainable development in higher education.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Besime Ziberi has developed a well-established body of scholarly work in the field of economics, with a strong focus on macroeconomics, public finance, sustainable development, and green and circular economy. Her research contributions have been published primarily in internationally recognized journals indexed in Scopus, with a significant portion also featured in Web of Science, reflecting her adherence to high academic standards and international research visibility.

At the core of her research lies the analysis of economic policies that influence long-term growth and resilience, including studies on foreign direct investment, public spending efficiency, social equity, and the development of strategic sectors. Among her most prominent contributions is the article titled “Foreign Direct Investment Legislation and Economic Growth in Western Balkan Countries: A Panel Analysis”, published in the highly ranked journal Technological and Economic Development of Economy (Q1, Scopus & Web of Science, Impact Factor 6.7), further solidifying her profile as an impactful development economist.

A significant part of her recent and ongoing research is dedicated to green economy, sustainable transitions, and their intersection with technological progress, particularly the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping new economic models. In this context, she is currently working on research articles exploring low-carbon economic modeling and the transformative impact of AI on enterprise performance and development policies in transitional economies. She has been invited as a keynote speaker at high-profile academic events, such as the 13th InTraders International Conference in Skopje and AI in the Age of Transformation in Pristina, where she delivered insights into the intersection of emerging technologies and economic sustainability in the Western Balkans.

Her contributions have also been featured in thematic sessions such as the EMERGE Dissemination Event, where she presented interdisciplinary research bridging Globalization 4.0, the digital economy, and climate transformation. Prof. Ziberi has presented at multiple international congresses in finance, management, and social policy, providing critical analyses on the role of public investments, labor market reforms, and education policy in economic growth.
