International Awards

AAB College awards the Doctor Honoris Causa and Professor Honoris Causa Awards to important academic personalities.

AAB College also gives five international awards for outstanding personalities with rich biographies and high professional qualities.

Awards are as follows:

  • International Award for Democracy and Integration,
  • International Human Rights Award,
  • International Award for High Scientific and Artistic Achievement,
  • “Ali Podrimja” International Literature Award,
  • International Award for Senior Achievement in Sports.

Doctor Honoris Causa Award winners

Porfirio Lobo Sosa, former President of Honduras, was awarded the title Doctor Honoris Causa by AAB College in 2011 for his contributions to democratic governance and international political stability. As a Central American leader who guided Honduras through a pivotal transition, his recognition by a higher education institution in Kosovo underscores AAB’s global academic partnerships and commitment to honoring peacebuilding efforts.

Stjepan Mesić, former President of Croatia, received the Doctor Honoris Causa title in 2013 from AAB College for his role in promoting European integration, regional cooperation in the Balkans, and intercultural dialogue. His legacy in post-conflict democratization and international diplomacy reflects AAB’s appreciation for visionary leadership connecting Southeast Europe with the European Union.

Robert Bosch, distinguished German diplomat and former Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Kosovo, was honored in 2015 with the Doctor Honoris Causa for his long-standing efforts to strengthen European diplomacy, post-war reconciliation in the Western Balkans, and development cooperation. This recognition by AAB College highlights the significance of German-Kosovar relations and excellence in international affairs.

Dr. Ernesto Kahan, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Israeli-Argentinian medical doctor, received the Doctor Honoris Causa in 2019 for his outstanding contributions to global health, peace advocacy, and humanitarian education. As Vice President of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, his recognition by AAB positions the college as a platform for global peace, ethics, and scientific impact.

Uran Butka, renowned Albanian historian, publicist, and politician, was awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa in 2019 for his dedication to preserving Albanian national memory, democratic resistance, and historical truth through literature and research. AAB College proudly acknowledges his academic integrity and influence on regional historical awareness.

Peter Marko Tase, American political analyst and academic, received the Doctor Honoris Causa in 2024 from AAB College for his leadership in international diplomacy, strategic communications, and promotion of global academic cooperation. His contributions to transatlantic policy and education reflect AAB College’s growing impact in global affairs.

Benjamin Fernando Bogado, Paraguayan journalist, former ambassador, and political advisor, was honored with the Doctor Honoris Causa in 2024 for his outstanding contributions to international media, Latin American diplomacy, and democratic governance. Through this award, AAB College emphasizes its commitment to global journalism, foreign relations, and intercontinental dialogue.

Steve H. Hanke, prominent American economist and Professor of Applied Economics at Johns Hopkins University, was awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa in 2025 for his pioneering work in currency reform, controlling hyperinflation, and ensuring financial stability in emerging economies. By recognizing Hanke’s global economic contributions, AAB College strengthens its academic presence in economics and international finance education.

Professor Honoris Causa Award winners

Ahmed Shaheed, former United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Maldivian diplomat, was awarded the Professor Honoris Causa title in 2010 by AAB College for his courageous work in promoting global human rights, religious freedom, and multilateral diplomacy. This honor reflects AAB’s academic alignment with international justice and human dignity.

Ion Deaconescu, Romanian philosopher, writer, and academic, received the Professor Honoris Causa title in 2021 for his contributions to European philosophical thought, intercultural education, and comparative literature. AAB College recognized his unique role in Romanian intellectual tradition and European cultural integration.

Prof. Dr. Rame Buja, Kosovar academic and former Minister of Education, was awarded the Professor Honoris Causa title in 2024 for his transformative contributions to higher education reform and curriculum modernization in Kosovo. His recognition affirms AAB College’s commitment to national academic development and educational policy innovation.

 

International Award for Human Rights winners

Jamie Shea – Jamie Shea, renowned NATO spokesperson during the Kosovo conflict, was awarded the International Human Rights Award by AAB College in 2016. He was recognized for his firm advocacy of humanitarian intervention and the defense of international security norms during one of Southeast Europe’s most critical moments.

William Walker – Ambassador William Walker, distinguished U.S. diplomat and Head of the OSCE Kosovo Verification Mission, received the International Human Rights Award in 2017. His documentation and international reporting of the Račak massacre in 1999 were pivotal in shaping world opinion and mobilizing international support for intervention in Kosovo.

Massimo D’Alema – Massimo D’Alema, former Prime Minister of Italy and one of Europe’s most influential political figures, received the International Human Rights Award in 2018 for his diplomatic engagement in Southeast Europe and strengthening the EU’s role in peacebuilding and regional stability.

Milo Đukanović – Milo Đukanović, President of Montenegro, was honored in 2022 with the International Human Rights Award for his contribution to democratic reform, regional cooperation, and Montenegro’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

International Award for Literature "Ali Podrimja" winners

Ismail Kadare – In 2014, AAB College awarded the “Ali Podrimja” International Literature Award to the world-renowned Albanian writer and Nobel Prize nominee Ismail Kadare. His extensive body of work has had a profound impact on world literature, political critique, and the shaping of Albanian cultural identity.

Jevrem Bërković – In 2015, this award was presented to Jevrem Bërković, a distinguished Montenegrin poet, essayist, and literary critic, for his work on language, identity, and regional history.

Abdullah Sidran – In 2021, the Ali Podrimja Award was given to Abdullah Sidran, one of Bosnia’s most powerful literary and cinematic voices. His work addresses war, memory, and displacement, with a strong cultural and social impact throughout the region.

 

International Award for High Scientific and Artistic Achievement winners

Nexhmije Pagarusha – In 2013, AAB College honored Nexhmije Pagarusha with this award for her iconic contribution to Albanian music and cultural heritage. Known as the “Nightingale of Kosovo,” her timeless voice and presence made her a symbol of national pride and artistic brilliance.

 

International Award for Senior Achievement in Sports winners

Majlinda Kelmendi – In 2014, Majlinda Kelmendi, Kosovo’s first Olympic gold medalist in judo, received the International Award for Senior Achievement in Sports from AAB College. She became a national hero and symbol of discipline, perseverance, and pride for Kosovo.
